Since there is no info available on what exactly you are connecting TO and it is a closed IT system, that is the only advice I can give you for a WEP secured network. WPA-PSK is driving me nuts - HELP?
The only reasonable label as a result of this is one telling the consumer what the default WEP/WPA code is that is turned on at the factory, like 2wire does. 2wire sets the router password, WEP/WPA key, and creates a unique SSID. I wanna go a step further and disable the wireless section until all of these security

Wireless internet, Vista, and HP
Either Vista can just grab hold of any open network without asking, or Tom is lying, or he considered a basic "do you want to join this one?" not a prompt. Not broadcasting SSID is a poor man's crutch for the piss poor performance of WEP. With WAP2 SSID broadcasting (or lack of) isn'ta big deal.

Windows Vista and Wireless
A good question, but not being that versed in Vista how would one find out? Every time I connect a PC running XP to my airport they needed to enter the hexidecimal equivalent password rather than the clear text. That's for WEP. I don't think you need to do anything of the sort with WPA.
