Well sometimes if the ap is WEP only it works after a long delay but if the the security is WPA or WPA2 we never get an IP address. It also seems that if I set a static IP on the interface then IpHelper never reports the static IP. Any thoughts, any places I can look for help? A thought. As you've noticed, Vista

Not broadcasting SSID is a poor man's crutch for the piss poor performance of WEP. With WAP2 SSID broadcasting (or lack of) isn'ta big deal. However, it's important that people understand that any network with devices supporting only WEP is problematic. There is no way to get actual security with WEP.

All you will have to do is set the WEP key or WPA-PSK key. If these VARs are getting profit margins of 20-30% with minimal equity requirements they may not need to go public. .... Customers who purchase Vista Home Basic and download a "freebie" version of Linux will not be allowed to use Vista as the client VM.

Vista Says WEP Key Is Wrong Length
A good question, but not being that versed in Vista how would one find out? Every time I connect a PC running XP to my airport they needed to enter the hexidecimal equivalent password rather than the clear text. That's for WEP. I don't think you need to do anything of the sort with WPA. Correct.

Vista Laptop Won't Accept 6 Character WEP Key

Vista Laptop Won't Accept 6 Character WEP Key
Vista is poo. It has major problems with DHCP and wireless access points so if you know how you can try statically assigning the vista laptop an IP and see if it starts working. Livebox broadcasts both a wpa and a wep signal, i have seen several wireless utilities that are unable to cope with this.

I called Gateway and they said for some reason Vista is not backwards compatible with XP in this matter. Is this true? Any input would be appreciated. Not broadcasting SSID is a poor man's crutch for the piss poor performance of WEP. With WAP2 SSID broadcasting (or lack of) isn'ta big deal. There was quite a bit of work done on Vista to fix various wireless issues, but supplying useful information to the user was not included. ALERT: WPA can be less secure than WEP
I'll have to use Lenovo's control for that. This is, unfortunately, a driver related deal. If the driver cannot hash a passphrase, then it will only accept a key. The driver can of course hash a passphrase. And why is only WEP available in Vista? -----yttrx -- http://www.yttrx.net.
